This direct mail postcard piece was written in the Fall of 2016 for Hillary for America (HFA) and mailed to several swing states during the 2016 Presidential election. Although Hillary Clinton lost the election, she won the popular vote by a significant margin of almost 3 million votes. I wrote this piece as the Senior Creative Director of the HFA Team within Mack Sumner Communications of Alexandria, VA, one of three primary direct mail consulting firms in charge of HFA’s campaign mail. This direct mail brochure endorsed the successful passage of two major voter referenda supporting public education in California, as well as the successful endorsement of Kamala Harris, who was elected to the United States Senate.  I wrote this piece in the Fall of 2016 as Senior Writer for Mack Sumner Communications, a political direct mail firm in Alexandria, VA. This is a feature article that I wrote for the January-February 2016 issue of Tail Windsa Tucson, AZ bicycling and fitness magazine.  The story featured former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly in their successful bid to ride the Sanofi 40-mile event of the Tucson Medical Center El Tour de Tucson presented by Casino Del Sol Resort, in November 2015. This is an op-ed piece that I wrote about health care reform and Medicaid expansion, published by The Christian Science Monitor. In it I argue that partisan opposition to providing healthcare access to millions of low-income Americans is not only impractical, it is immoral. This is a “barrel roll” direct mail accomplishments piece that I wrote in the Fall of 2012 for President Barack Obama’s successful re-election campaign, while I worked for Mack Crounse Group. MCG was one of two major political direct mail firms handling the President’s campaign mail. I was head writer for the Obama account, wrote one-third of Obama for America’s total issues-based mail, and I was named MCG’s Best Writer for the 2012 campaign season. From 2008 through 2011, I wrote, directed and produced the award-winning El Tour Live Radio Show, which mixed live with pre-recorded programming and featured the men’s and women’s finish of the annual El Tour de Tucson, one of the largest bicycle events in the country. The show included interviews of cyclists, sponsors, and special guests, and was streamed by Clear Channel to a global audience. I edited and/or wrote the copy of the Casa de la Luz Hospice website, which offers lots of information about Casa’s hospice services, staff, events, etc., in Tucson, AZ. Click on the image to be directed to the Casa de la Luz Hospice website.

I wrote and edited several issues of La Luz Newsletter produced by Casa de la Luz Hospice. For this issue, I wrote the front-page article about hope and hospice as well as the essay on the back (p. 8), “Hospice Came Home,” in honor of my father who had passed a short time prior. I edited and proofed the entire newsletter.

 

Japan_ArticleI was a regular contributor to DesertLeaf magazine in Tucson, AZ, for which I wrote this travel article on Japan. Article Excerpt: “Japan in summer can be taxing. When you aren’t swooning from the relentless heat and extreme humidity, you may find yourself caught in the path of a typhoon – while hiking to the top of Mount Fuji…”

I wrote the Welcome Brochure for the Crest Ranch Homeowners Association in Tucson, AZ. I also did the photography for this tri-fold brochure, and I sub-contracted to a freelance graphics designer for the design and layout.
